Bacteroides eggerthii
Bacteroides eggerthii belongs to a big family of bacteria called Bacteroidetes. It has been found in feces from humans and fish, showing his capacity to adapt to very different environments and diets. Bacteroides eggerthii is very efficient at breaking down complex carbohydrates (found in dietary fibers) and it can turn them into short-chain fatty acids, especially propionate. Some studies show a connection between this bacteria and type 2 diabetes.
