Aspergillus fumigatus is an opportunistic pathogen and one of the most common Aspergillus spp widely present in the environment. In humans, Aspergillus fumigatus can cause a wide range of infections, by releasing abundant conidia into the air. But, infection and symptoms are directly determined by the immunological status of the invidual. Healthy individuals rarely suffer any adverse effect because they can eficiently eliminate conidia from the respiratory tract. But, persons with pulmonary disorders, such as asthma or cystic fibrosis, Aspergillus can cause allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. Besides respiratory tract, other sites of infection much less common, are the skin, peritoneum, kidneys, bones, eyes and gastrointestinal tract.
