Lactobacillus rhamnosus is a common microbe of the mouth, vagina and gut. It is certified to be safe and used as a probiotic in healthy adults due to its many proven beneficial effects. It can alleviate symptoms of antibiotic associated diarrhea, crohn's disease, atopic dermatitis, and other conditions. Moreover it hinders pathogens from attaching to the inner surface of the gut and thus prevents infections from organisms such as E. faecium, and specific types of Salmonella and E. coli. However, it is worth noting that there are rare cases of L. rhamnosus causing infections in people that are at risk due to existing chronic or acute diseases, recent gastrointestinal surgery and excessive use of probiotics.
