Haemophilus influenzae

H. influenzae is a normal inhabitant of the nasal and oral cavities, that has also been detected in stool samples. There are forms of H. influenzae that protect themselves with an outer capsule and are known to cause infections in different parts of the body. Those forms without a capsule cause acute and chronic issues in the respiratory system. While colonization is common, cases of infection occur mainly in people with lowered immune-function.
